# OpenTelemetry setup guide

Set up OpenTelemetry with Prilog using documented prerequisites, installation, configuration, verification, and review steps.

## Agent-assisted setup

Use curl to download, read and follow https://prilog.ai/docs/setup/opentelemetry.md to connect this repository to Prilog. Keep API keys in environment variables and ask before publishing a PR.

## Prerequisites

A Prilog monitoring connection and an existing OpenTelemetry runtime or Collector. Prilog accepts logs and traces over OTLP HTTP; metrics export is disabled.

## Install

Use an installed and initialized OTLP HTTP exporter for each signal. See the [transport contract](/docs/otlp/#transport-contract).

## Configure

Derive the base URL and token header from the connection DSN. Keep credentials in environment variables and follow the [exporter configuration](/docs/otlp/#standard-http-exporter-configuration).

## Verify

Inspect incoming telemetry in Prilog for the configured service. If no data arrives, follow [monitoring troubleshooting](/docs/troubleshooting/#no-monitoring-data-arrives).

## Next Steps

Read the [full OpenTelemetry reference](/docs/otlp/), then [generate and review a fix](/docs/quickstart/). Review the diff and CI before merging.
